An Interview with MaryAnne
Tally: You call it pretty permanent make up, so how long will it last for?
MA: This varies from person to person and depends on age, lifestyle and metabolic rate. Generally, if you never had another colour boost it would last between 1 and 5 years before it was fully faded. Most people however come for a colour boost every year and this keeps the make up looking fresh and updated. The good thing is that once you have had your initial treatments carried out most maintenance treatments cost around £200 which as you only need annually makes it a very affordable treatment for almost everyone on an ongoing basis.
Tally: Does treatment hurt?
MA: Managing pain control is a very important aspect of what I do. I have concentrated on finding extremely effective ways of keeping pain to a minimum. I picked up some seriously good tips and tricks on my last visit to the USA. Which are generally ahead of the UK in this field. I also make sure I don't rush a procedure but allow plenty of anesthetic time. So to answer your question whilst it isn't a relaxing massage it really isn't very painful as a procedure and the benefits are really worth any discomfort one might feel. It is also really helps that a person be well rested and fed before their appointment and that ladies do not book appointments during their menstruation as all of these points make a person more sensitive and therefore more susceptible to pain.
Tally: Is there likely to be swelling and bruising and how long before someone can be seen in public and return to work?
MA: There will of course be some swelling though very often this is very minimal and in some cases, though very rarely, bruising. Many people return to work the next day but I would always suggest with a full lip tint that a weekend is allowed for recovery. All make Up areas will look darker and harder initially and as the excess sloughs off within approximately 10 days they then become much softer and more subtle and over the next month the colour matures fully.
Tally: What would happen if someone didn't like their makeup aren't they then stuck with it?
MA: Some times I am asked to remove or correct work by done by other technicians. I am fully trained to do this and I can remove it in the same way that I remove other tattoos.Semi-permanent is just much easier to take off which is why I recommend semi-permanent body art before you go for the real thing. All the up side with none of the down.
Tally: What made you choose this profession?
I had been working as a managing director of a large company in a very stressful environment. One day I just decided that I wasn't going to have anything in my life that I didn't enjoy doing. I have always loved make-up and beauty and I am an Artist, this is very important. Whilst the technical aspects of the job are critical, achieving this with artistry and vision is what is needed for a great technician. I personally always looked so much better with a bit of make up on and which women doesn't really want to look her prettiest all the time? It was a great decision; I adore my Job and my clients!
Tally: What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your work?
Some people might consider what I do trivial but I see the difference that it makes to people lives; the way they feel about themselves. Self esteem can take a knocking as you get older too as everything seems to be heading south and definition and colour is fading; so to be able to help both women and men look and feel more vibrant and youthful without having to go anywhere near a knife is very rewarding. Helping alopecia sufferers and people who have or are overcoming cancer, beautiful people, helping them to feel normal again, is also extremely rewarding.
MaryAnne supports cancer patients in their quest to return to normal life and the charity "Look good feel better" with a 25% discount off the normal price to clients with a further £25 going to the charity Look Good Feel Better www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk.
